28 Aug 2002 - "Just returned from 2 weeks
in Limenaria, staying at the Anna with Manos. I though Limenaria
was a great place. The taveran owners do ask if you want to eat
intheir place, but if you don't they always give you a smile and
a comment to have a nice evening (or have a nice walking as one
owner kept telling us). The owners of the Anna, tanya and Demitri,
were very nice, the hotel was in a quiet part of town and you could
use the pool and bar at the Anna Beach, the sunbeds on the beach
were also free and Demitri always got us a good spot. They would
also change money for free.
We hired a car for a week so you could stop off
at some of the great little coves and beaches, the water was perfect
for snorkelling. we did have a problem with wasps on the Skala Potamia
side, but non at limenaria, there were a few mossis about, but insect
repellant worked ok. Aliki is well worth going to, there were lovelly
little tavernas along the beach. I would also recommend going on
a boat trip, which was great fun."
From Louise, Manchester, UK
24 Aug 2002 - "I returned from Scala Potamias
on 13th August and i loved it. It was my first visit and I was
very impressed, we stayed at the Aloe studios - they are lovely
they are compact but they are so clean with sea views We hired
a car and the island is so pretty - very green. Thassos town is
lovely, I also liked Aliki beach and the village of Panagia. I
wasn't keen on Limenaria as the taverna owners hassle you. All
in all I thought it was a lovely island, very popular with greeks
which is a good sign , I particularly liked the Nautilus restaurant
in Scala Potamias."
From Mandy Lord, West Yorkshire, UK
23 Aug 2002 - "My husband, my daughter and
I have just returned from our first visit to Thassos; what a wonderful
Island! We had a fantastic holiday! We travelled with Golden Sun
(15th/22nd August 2002) and stayed at the Athrion Studios on the
outskirts of Skala Potamias. The studios are a leisurely 20 minute
stroll from Skala Potamias . . . . . .
The whole of Mandy's message can be

this link - a new browser page will open, leaving this one
for your return.

22 Aug 2002 - "Arrived back from Thassos 8th
Aug stayed in Skala Potamias. Slighty disappointed after reading
the feedback from this web site. Thassos didn't quite live up to
what I expected. Yes there where lots of wasps which are extemely
hard to ignore 2 of my party were stung several times even the locals
were surprised with how many were buzzing about! Mosquitos also
out in tremendous force you could not go out in the evening without
dowsing yourself in mossi repelent!!
But worse of all was the building work there is
an awful lot going on especialy in Skala Potimias and even more
so in Golden Beach area. we stayed at the Aliston studios very nice
apartments but building work both adjacent & opposite property 7am
- 2.30pmish every day including Sat&Sun. If you have young or teenage
children then the owner/manager Fanasis is not very tollerent of
them having fun in or around the pool area he appears to like everyone
to be quiet, ok for some but not youngsters. Even so we did enjoy
our holiday but this is not one of our favourite islands and i don,t
think it deserves a second visit."
From Frances Sheldon, Leicestershire, UK
20 Aug 2002 - "Restaurant Flisvos, Skala
Potomias - excellent food, freshly cooked by the owner Vangelis.
The most delicious meals were served to me there by very friendly
staff who during our holiday became our friends aswell. My son
and I cannot wait to go back, and experience it all over again.
WONDERFUL!!"
From Stuart Miller, Kent, UK
16 Aug 2002 - "For those of you who may be
nervous of travelling independently to Thassos - don't worry. We
travelled flight only back in May after several years of package
trips to the island. It was so easy that we are doing the same again
in September.
We booked our May flights using an independent
travel agent in Swanley, and for the September trip we found flights
on the internet. We found several benefits of travelling independently.
Most importantly it makes the holiday much cheaper. OK we had an
advantage because we have made friends with people living in Skala
Potamia on our former visits so we were able to arrange accommodation,
but if you travel outside the peak times of July and August there
are plenty of rooms advertised to rent.
Travelling independently is also more convenient.
We came straight out of the airport and jumped into a taxi to Keramoti.
The journey cost 6 Euros. You buy a ferry ticket from the kiosk
where the ferry docks (about 1.25 Euros) and you've probably got
time for a beer at one of the local tavernas before the coaches
arrive from the airport.
At Limenas you get off the ferry and there is a
taxi rank right beside the ferry dock. The fare to Skala Potamia
was 6 Euros, and we were at our accomodation in next to no time
- you know what Greek taxi drivers are like! No sitting on a coach
waiting while everyone else is dropped off at their accomodation
before you.
However, if you prefer, the bus stop is next to
the taxi rank so you can take a bus which is much cheaper, but takes
slightly longer. But remember - the buses stop running after about
6 o'clock.
All the ferry times are posted outside the ticket
kiosks so you can arrange your return journeys quite easily. No
problem!"
From Trudi Bareham, Somerset, UK
18 Aug 2002 - "We came back from our 4th
visit to Skala Potamia in July,it is our favorite place to be
in Greece! We stay at the Paschalis Studios ( Golden Sun ) clean
and close to everything! Everyone is so friendly and treats us
like long lost family when we return. Favorite places to eat are
Akrogiali, Megas Alexandros, The Captain's Bar do a great Kleftiko,
and the Votsalo for our lunch snack and after dinner drinks, with
our friend Smaro and her family. Have read of lots of problems
with wasps this year, though we have never been troubled before
on our visits. Smaro told us it was because of the very cold winter
there, 4 -5 feet of snow followed by lots of ice!!! We go to Thassos
every 2 years, but if we could afford 2 holidays a year we would
go each year!! We hope to live there when we are old and gray!!!
I can't imagine anyone not enjoying a holiday here, and just hope
the tourism is kept to a minimum and not find too many English
people setting up cafes to take away the business from the locals!"
From Chris,Kim and Becky, Yorkshire, UK
14 Aug 2002 - "Got back from Thasos on August
6th.Stayed at Skala Potamias, it was wonderful. There were a lot
of wasps but they do not seem to be aggressive and you soon learn
to just ignore them.
Go to Panagia, superb place, and find The Hotel
Thasos Inn and have a beer on the terrace away from the crowd, what
a bar!. Also go to Kastro up in the mountains,a beautiful deserted
village with one inhabitant ,a top man if ever I met one, who owns
the only taverna there and which is open everyday. Ask him to show
you around the church,awesome!.
For the best beaches, with no crowds, go to Skala
Marion, you won't find a nicer place on the island and there are
two fantastic beaches there. Thasos is as beautiful as it says in
the brochure and the people are so very friendly and helpful. We'll
definitely go again, I have never swam in such clear, warm water.
Paradise!."
From Ann Leather, UK
11 Aug 2002 - "Went to Thassos for 2 weeks
at the end of July, stayed at Calypso Hotel Skala Prinos which
was well kept, very clean and Yianna the bar maid was so friendly.
We hired a car and travelled around the island stopping at many
of the view points we were very dissapointed to see loads of rubbish
thrown over the sides of the cliffs spoiling the views! also a
lot of places were scruffy and dirty and not looked after very
well which is such a shame as the place is lovely and deserves
to be kept in better condition. Golden beach was filthy the sand
was full of rubbish and absolutely covered in fag ends the bins
were overflowing and we felt so sad that such a beautiful place
was so neglected. We won't return to Thassos and feel the locals
should improve the standards of cleanliness and generally clean
up more and care better for their island."
From Tony & Barbara Middleton, Cheshire, UK
8 Aug 2002 - "Just arrived back in UK 6 Aug
after 2 weeks on Thassos, stayed at the DIONYSOS hotel on Golden
Beach , wow what a fantastic place & the view of the bay was out
of this world. Will stay there again ,every room had the sea view.
Golden Beach itself is a get away from it all place, just a couple
of supermarkets and a few tavernas but all of them give you a fantastic
meal. VIGLIS & FEDRA were the best two, NIKOS the head waiter at
the Fedra is one of the best guys youll ever meet (that place is
a must for anybody.)
The downsides.
WASPS. be sure to take a good spray .ps try burning greek coffee
in a container they hate it.they also love HAM so beware!
BUSES .not a very good service, none from Thassos Town after 6.45pm
(might be better with car hire for a couple of days )
TAXIS . they dont like golden beach, so if theres only two of you
then you might have to share with somebody else.ps they drive like
failed f1 drivers but safe as houses."
From Robert Nunn, Swaffhem Prior, UK
4 Aug 2002 - "We have been to Thassos 17
times, & we assure you ,you will have a very good meal in the
Pighi restaurant. It is off the main road in Thassos Town, just
up from where the ferry boats come in.I t is good value for Euros
& we always go back for more."
From Paul Boothroyd, UK
3 Aug 2002 - "Returning to Skala potamia for
our second holiday here, stayed at the garden studios (golden sun)
last year, owners very friendly and clean accomadation, they run
asmall store below the rooms, very handy for breakfast food, and
far too handy for late night drinks!! Going to Susie studios this
time on 6th August, I hope they are as good. A lovely island, We
will do Theologos this time! Good website keep it going."
From Tracie & Phil Fieldhouse, UK
1 Aug 2002 - "We have just arrived back
from our 3rd visit to limenaria and no doubt we shall go again
next year! At Sunset apartments the family are now considered
friends & we are so pleased that they are going to rent 3 of their
9 rooms privately. Every year just gets better! We love the place
that much we would eventually like to move there (saw fab houses
in Scala Sotiras!). We are going to learn Greek now so we can
have a real good go at communicating. Kostis is one of the best
places to eat in Limenaria but even the local Giros is good!
PLEASE Thassos DO NOT allow MacDonalds or the
like & large TV screens showing football - that's why we love
you so much! I was going to try another Greek island for next
year but now I've been again I think is will be Thassos!"
From Miss Julie Purslow & Mr Eddy James, Cumbria,
UK
28 Jul 2002 - "We went to Thassos, Skala Potamia
last year 2001. To celebrate my 40th birthday yes it comes to us
all age that is. Anyway I digress we found Thassos to be Heaven.
We have never been made so welcome. I being Julie have been to Greece
many times in the past but have never experienced the withdrawal
symptons I had when returning from Thassos. We used the local buses
to tour the island. Made friends with Alexandra in the cake shop.
Found our favorite beach to be Paridisio. Our favourite taverna
was "Restaurant-Cafe NAUTILOS".
Our table was reserved for us every night, the
food was excellent, the company even better we were among friends!
This year we are going back flight only for 3 weeks to stay with
Kostas & Katerina who also have apartments called the castle it
is a bright yellow complex. We have considered going to live there
eventually. We daren't tell anyone about it because it could be
spoiled. The first time I see a McDonalds will be the last time
I visit the island."
From Jim Spring, UK
25 Jul 2002 - "Went to Thassos 2 years ago
and what a discovery! We loved every minute of our stay - Thassos
town, studio apartments, and knew we had to come back. We are
returning next week (30th July) and staying in Nostos Studios
in Golden Beach.
I've just read some wonderful reviews on this
site and others about Golden Beach, so am looking forward to it
even more! Thank you to the other reviewers for recommending the
restaurants and local car hire, though if the temperature is still
in the 40s, we probably won't travel far!
I look forward to posting our review on our return,
and want to thank the owners of this site for the excellent info
and links. I think it's true that once someone discovers Thassos,
they can't help going back for more and more! Best wishes Jim"
From Eric Foot, N. Yorks, UK
24 Jul 2002 - "Just returned from our 5th
visit to Thasos, so we obviously love it! Stayed at the Achillion
in Scala Potamias this year. V. friendly and comfortable, though
some distance from town and beach. Breakfasts not wonderful. I
preferred self-catering at the Steki Taverna, but my family wanted
a swimming pool.
We book a flight only, arrange a car from Kavala
airport, and book accommodation over the internet. This works
out at around £250 pp for 7 nights - cheaper than all but the
very last of the "late bargains". And we get our choice of accommodation
and a car.
Have no fear whatsoever of finding accommodation
when you arrive in Thasos. Every other house has comfortable rooms
to let, and most are always vacant! My teenage son got a 50% reduction
by doing this, and took less than an hour to find a comfortable
ensuite room. If you don't want a car, Taxi from the airport to
the ferry at Keramoti is about £6, Ferry less than £1 and buses
on the island are almost free and enormously entertaining.
DO climb up to the Acropolis in Limenas (early
morning or late evening is best), DO visit Theologos, and DO go
to Aliki unless you're on the island the same time as us: it can
get a bit crowded, but wasn't on 16-23 July 2002. Take a parasol,
or you'll burn."
From Sarah Kendle, Berkshire, UK
18 Jul 2002 - "We have just returned from
a lovely week in Thassos and I thought I would add my comments as
I found this site very helpful before we went.
We stayed at the Villa Amalia (Golden Sun) in Scala
Potamia - which were very nice - spacious & clean and on arriving
we had possibly the friendliest welcome I have received in Greece
yet! The owners were so nice, bringing us cold drinks and were very
welcoming. Scala Potamia is lovely, not too quiet but not really
busy either - the beach is fabulous and our little boy whose two,
loved it! The sea shelves quite gently so it's ideal for children.
There is a good selection of places to eat and we particularly liked
Kramboussa, where they are also child friendly (when they brought
an appetizer of ouzo for my husband & I, they also brought a little
glass of pineapple juice for our little boy so he didn't feel left
out!) and they had a decent highchair (some do, some dont have them
at all!) Nautilus was good too as was Flisvos.
We took a trip up to Panagia, had a wander & some
lunch and bought some of the delicious pine honey with walnuts they
produce - which was a pleasant morning. Thassos is very green &
lush even more so than Corfu - we did have 2 storms while we were
there and saw some fantastic lightening! The only thing which was
a little annoying were the wasps - they weren't particularly aggressive,
just very persistant.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Thassos - it's
beautiful. My husband loved it and he has to be dragged on holiday!!
- we will definitely be going back for longer next time so we can
explore a bit more. Can't wait . . . . . "
From The Tyremans, Gloucester, UK
10 Jul 2002 - "We had a fantastic holiday
in Skala Potamia, totally relaxing. However not so relaxing that
it was boring for our children aged 8 and 10; who have asked to
go back again next year. Would like to recommend Tavern Megas
Alexandros. The food and staff are excellent, especially Alex
who makes you feel so welcome."
From Cheryl Turver, UK
5 Jul 2002 - "C J s Cafe Skala Potamia - A
great place to eat if you fancy a great breakfast and snack. Run
by an English couple who liked Thassos so much they have opened
a snack bar.The bar is spotless and the view is great.
Flisvos offers great value for money & has a great
selection of food.Paula who runs the restaraunt with her Greek partner
Vangelis who is the chef offers a good selection of greek food which
can be viewed before you order. We had a selection of local fish
to share which was superb."
From Steve and Michele, UK
3 Jul 2002 - "Just got back from a weeks
break on Thassos, staying in the Fotini Studios in Thassos town
(with Airtours). Brilliant time, weather excellent (couldn't be
any worse than what we're having in the UK!) in the 30's every
day. Beaches lovely, excellent snorkelling. Good food too... particularly
recommend the bar under the oak tree in the old harbour - between
the Old Port restaurant and Simi's. Possibly the most laid back
beer I've ever drunk! Then a short sounter to the best food we
found - Patriko's just a little past the Old Port restaurant and
behind the Port building.... really got to recommend the Tzatziki,
and the oven cooked meatballs!"
From Emma Devlin, Flintshire
3 Jul 2002 - "Just back from a wonderful week
with my 6 year old daughter to Skala Potamias, we stayed at the
Dina Studios, which were just perfect, lovely and clean. Dina was
so very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. My daughter
was stung by a wasp on her foot, Dina was at the ready with all
the right medication to sort it out, together with a glass of ice
tea!! The representative, Louise, was very passionate about Thassos,
this being her second year on the island. She was exceptionally
pleasant, as were all the Thompson staff, very informative and made
everything hassle free.
My advice to anyone travelling to Thassos would
be to take insect repellent if you are prone to being bitten, make
sure you enjoy yourself, relax and enjoy the mountains, beaches,
spectacular thunderstorms and the greek life. I am already in the
process of booking to return in September when I will take my partner
too!!"
From Emma and Karen, Essex, England
29 Jun 2002 - "We have just returned after
a fabulous week in Skala Potomias. We have already booked another
2 wks in Sept, and are counting down the weeks.!
We travelled with Thompson and our rep Louise
was excellent. We had a long journey to the Island as we travelled
on the day of the Ferry strike, but it was an experience searching
for your luggage in a dark carpark with 700 other holiday makers.
We stayed at Semelie Studios, immaculate rooms, we didnt need
for anything.
Situated right in the middle of everything to
our right the bars and restaurants and we tried out nearly all
of them, all mouth watering dishes. I made sure i had a greek
meal in each, and to our left we had the beautiful long golden
beach. We collected alot of pretty stones to bring home with us
from the beach. and had lots of fun and frollics in the sea with
new friends that we made in our week.
I hope it doesnt get to built up, We love Skala
Potomia and Thassos the way it is... only 9 wks to go now..xxx
From Angela Norcross, Wiltshire
29 Jun 2002 - "Just returned from our first
trip to Thassos (went 13th June, came home 26th June, Scala Potomia.)
The most beautiful place I have been in a long time - through one
window we were staring at the Swiss Alps minus snow, out on our
balcony and we could see the sun rise over the sea. Swifts nesting
above our heads in the cool shade of our balcony.....definately
be returning (and posibly trying to buy a little place in Sotiras
BUT this is just a quickie, and quite important
for anyone about to go soon, because I wish someone had told me
these things before:

From Gemma Seale, Kent
25 Jun 2002 - "I have been going to Thassos
since I was eight years old and I am now 24. However 3 of those
years were actually spent working there, which I may add was a
fantastic experience. After reading all these messages it is nice
to hear some of the people talk about my friends whom I have known
for those 16 years! especailly when Stuart miller was talking
about the Boomerang Bar who is owned by very good friends of mine
and my family.
I am returning to Thassos with My Fiancee and
My parents on the 27th August for 2 weeks as we are attending
a Wedding in Drama! However, Stuart we may see you there if you
are planning on returning to the Boomerang Bar at the beginning
of September! It's always nice to meet new friend. My Mum and
Dad have already been to Potos this year in May and saw there
friends who own the restaurant Zoom, so it will be nice to tell
them that this site recommends their restaurant! Mind you it was
the first time my mum and dad had eaten in the restaurant since
they have opened and they said the food was out of this world
and a fortnights holiday wouldn't be long enough to try out all
of the menu.
Well for those of you who will be going to Thassos
at the end of August, you will find me in the Boomerang Bar so
if your Passing come and say hello!"
From Stuart Miller, Kent
16 Jun 2002 - "Once again we've had an excellent
holiday in Skala Potamia. There are quite a few changes going on
in the village. A telebank on the main road near the Blue Bay Studios.
Very useful - and it works!! Several new buildings being built,
a row of shops next to the Mandragoras bar, a bar at the crossroads
and a block pavement along the track from the bridge by the Korali
taverna out past Akrogiali. Oh, and there's a new snack bar next
to the Avis rent-a-car office run by an English family. However,
their menu seems to be a bit limited - English breakfast, steak
and chips and mixed grill. Not the sort of food I go to Greece to
enjoy!
Talking of food there's a couple of places I'd
like to recommend not mentioned in my previous message. If you're
staying at Golden Beach try a taverna called FINIKAS. This is run
by George who used to work at Vigli, and he is doing a grand job.
His menu is extensive and good value. I ate the shrimp souvlaki,
and if they were shrimps I can't imagine how big prawns would be!
Also, if you're in Thassos Town, it would pay you to walk around
to the harbour and indulge in a baked potato and a beer at Remezzo.
My favourite is the tuna filling. We visited all the establishments
previously recommended - Krambousa, Akrogiali, Mousses, Megas Alexandros
and they are all maintaining their excellent standards.
We "discovered" Potos this year. We went there
thinking it was market day. We were wrong, but it gave us the opportunity
to roam around. The seafront is particularly nice with a host of
bars and a couple of really good fish tavernas. We had a drink at
the Boomerang bar. This is run by a Greek who emigrated to Australia,
and has returned to the island with his two sons and a new wife!
They were very friendly and they operate a system whereby they will
let you have a sunbed if you buy a drink and/or snack. This was
an offer we couldn't refuse. Have you ever seen a tortoise in the
wild? We saw two on Thassos last year. One in the mountains on the
way to Kastro, and the second on the road between Astris and the
Monastery. So we were keen to spot another this year, and we did
- on the road near Kinira. Brilliant!
We're going back in September - we may see you
there!"
From Cathy Baker, Berkshire, England
16 Jun 2002 - "I arrived back from Thassos
after a wonderful holiday with my three daughters just last week
and I have already booked to go again next month with my partner.
I would never normally go back to the same place twice in one
year but Thassos is exeptional!!"
From Mick & Tracey, West Yorkshire
14 Jun 2002 - "Thanks for the excellent site.
We visited Thassos in August 2001 (at 44yrs, my 1st ever time abroad).
What a fantastic place! We stayed in apartments no longer listed
in Airtours brochure, but had already decided to go back this year
and stay at the Hotel Macedon, Thassos town. The friendly reception
we always received when we called BEGGED to be re-visited. We'll
be there again in August and will let you know how we go on. Can't
wait!"
From Genine Nash, England
13 Jun 2002 - "Have just come back from
a week at Hotel Dionysos, Golden Beach. Apart from the steep climb
to and through the hotel grounds, it could not be faulted. Beautiful
unobstructed views across the bay from all rooms which are sea
facing, spotlessly clean and amazingly friendly staff. It's also
very quite day and night."
From Peter and Irena Vlaming, Amsterdam, Netherlands
11 Jun 2002 - "We fully agree with all the
positive comments on Thassos and especially Skala Potamias. We stayed
there recently 2 weeks in the very nice, quiet and clean apartment
Filio. The beach, see and mountains are beautiful. Last year we
spend our holidays at Corfu, but now we prefer Thassos to Corfu in
every respect.
We especially fully agree with the high recommandations
for taverna Megas Alexandros in Skala Potamias! As vegetarians it's
not always easy to have a good choice, but at M.Alexandros it was
no problem. The mother of the brother owners Alexandros and Dimitri
is vegetarian herself. We've eaten there 4 times and every time
the food and Thassian white wine was excellent. They even made on
our special request a vegetarian mousaka which was even better than
the excellent one we had at Corfu last year.
We only have one question: who is meant by Megas
in the name of the restaurant. Most probably it's the owner Alexandros,
but theoretically it can also be the old more than 2300 year old
world conqueror. Greetings from Peter and Irena."
From Nichola and James, England
10 Jun 2002 - "Have just returned from a
glorious week in Scala Potomia. The acccomodation booked through
Libra was very average (and reps average too!)- take your own
towels and pillows! The island itself was beautiful - mountainous
and very scenic. Loads of restuarants and wonderful food. I would
suggest hiring a car (around 22 euros for the day - good week
rates availiable) and drive around the island. Some fantastic
secluded beaches to be discovered. A lovely island - relatively
quiet and peaceful - will definitely be returning!"
From Alan Chatwin, England
8 Jun 2002 - "I first visited Thassos in 1971
with my then new wife, her mother and aunt who are both Greek and
hail from Thessaloniki. We visited Golden Beach then and there was
nothing there apart from a few small houses but since returning
in 1994, and five other times since, I have found "Sotiris" taverna
at the northern end of Golden Beach to be superb. The Garides (king
prawns) are magnificent. Service is good and prices are not OTT.There
are so many goods things I could say about Thassos, I would be here
a week just writing. I'm going back In September this year Staying
at Villa Eden in Limesnas (Thassos Town) with Kosmar.
Your site is a mine of very useful (and accurate)
information. I know many of the places and tavernas mentioned and
I almost always agree with the feedback. Well done and thank you."
From Ray & Margaret Hunter, Cheshire, England
8 Jun 2002 - "Just got back from visiting
the island for a second time. Stayed again at Hotel Socrates,
Scala Prinos, still an excellent hotel, clean and beautifully
kept. Added self catering rooms at the rear, beautiful, since
are last visit. George the son can not be too helpful. Better
ratings than Thompsom Cat gives it. The Nest taverna approx 100
metres away is still the best place to eat. Very freindy, service
excellent meals and not pricy. In my opion the best in the resort."
From Josie and Alan Watson, Yorkshire, UK
7 Jun 2002 - "Thanks for so much information
on Thassos ! We will be spending 2 weeks in Scala Potamias at the
Green Sea studios (3rd July for 2 weeks). Have got loads of info
on best restaurants etc from your site. As soon as we get back we'll
send you our comments."
From Sharon Kelly & Paul Appleby, Northants,
England
6 Jun 2002 - "Returned from Skala Potamia
4.6.02 and had a fantastic time. Stayed at the Blue Bay Studios
through Thomson and found owners very helpful in resolving a few
minor problems we had. Can definitely recommend using local buses
to go into Thassos Town. Only 2 Euros for a return trip!! Tip
- Remember to buy your tickets, before you board, from the local
supermarkets. Tried the Steki and Krambousa restaurants as recommended
on this site and both were excellent. Will definitely be returning
some time soon!!"
From Peter and Valerie Gough, Essex, UK
5 Jun 2002 - "Just arrived back from our second
visit in seven years to Thassos and thankfully it is still unspoilt,
peaceful, beautiful, friendly and very relaxing. We stayed at the
Hotel Dimitri in Golden Beach and it was really nice, Dimitri really
put himself out to make nice breakfasts each day, sometimes fresh
cherries or strawberries were picked from his garden. A very quiet
place, not for those who want lots of night life. Just eating in
the tavernas in the evening, especially the Fedra, never had a bad
meal and the staff are lovely. Beach beautiful, hire a car, we did
and got a bargain from Potos Rentals, go to Paradise Beach, Alyki
Beach and try Pefkari beach, all lovely. Not much to buy but do
get your drinks on the return at the airport, we found them cheaper
than the shops in Thassos town. In Thassos town there is a little
hotel, Hotel Alykon and you can get a pot of English tea and she
makes lovely scones and lemon meringue pie if you feel like something
different from the Greek food occasionally." |
