I have been going to Thassos for nearly 20
years, and have spent 4 summers there working in various bars,
and I am afraid to say I was even a rep there many moons ago.
Here are a list of my favourite bars and Tavernas in Thassos
Town (Limenas) I hope they will be of use to you.
Favourite Bars
Anonymous: Ran by Mike and his lovely Greek wife Vasso, Mike
is originally from Llanelli in S Wales, really good atmosphere
a great place to people watch as it is in the main street
were all Greeks do volta every evening.
Full Moon: Next door to Anonymous ran by Mark and Nina, Mark
is Australian and his wife is Greek, Nina has a wonderful
personallity and loves to dance with her Greek friends in
the wee hours!
Platea: This bar is on the old town square and is more for
music followers, great atmosphere plays a lot of reggae, rock
and ambient style music.
Central Bar: Ran by Nikos and Babis these 2 are really friendly
never stop smiling, you have to go up some steps to the bar
and it has a balcony, a great place for people watching.
Karantin: Situated by the old harbour, great place for a meze
and to watch the sunset over the mountains breathtaking.
Favourite Tavernas
Moyses: Great food especially the seafood, try the myvia saganaki
(mussells cooked in a tomato, chilli and feta cheese sauce).
If you look out to sea from the ferry port walk left out of
town for about quarter of a mile, be warned it gets very busy
so you might be better off reserving a table.
Pigi: Situated in the old square this is one of the oldest
Tavernas in Limenas good food and very reasonably priced.
Vassilis Grill: Situated in a pedestrianised road that leeds
to the old square, very good meat dishes and Vassili is a
great character.
Zorbas: This is a lively place to eat, there is usually entertainment
on every night in high season and Yianni the owner is great
value.
Zodiac: Run by Jill and Ilias this is a very popular Taverna
Ilias cooks probably the best steaks in town.
Kokkinia: This is a little way out of town, if you take the
road to Panagia it is on the edge of town just before the
turning to Makryamos. Quiet with a very good selection of
traditional Greek food and fine fish.
See you there!! Alan.
