| Arrived back home on 30th
June 2004 after a super 14 day stay on the island of Thassos.
We stayed at the Anna Beach apartments in
limenaria having booked through Kosmar holidays. The owners,
Dimitri and Tanya were very friendly and the accomadation
was clean and tidy. The apartments were loacated on the beach
front, however the beach in Limenaria is probably one of the
poorest on the island.
Our only real gripes about the holiday was
the very cramped apartment we had to put up with for our stay, whilst
being modern it could only be described as compact and you
had to climb 62 steps to reach our room on the fourth floor.Air
conditioning was avaliable at 5 euros per day. I really could
not get excited about limenaria, the resort is very commercialised
and the restuarant owners do their utmost to get you into
their premises.
Well those were the bad points, now for the
good bits;
We had visited Thassos in 2002 and stayed
in Potos, whilst we loved the resort we didn't rate our accommadation(
Villa Keti). Our immediate task on our first evening on the
island was to visit our friends George and Theo who run the
Cafe Bar Anonym on the front at Potos. As ever they made us
welcome throughout our 14 day stay, if you do get the chance
call in and see them, they are always polite and treat you
very well. The bar is well used by the locals and is one of
the few bars that remains open all year round.
As many of you are aware there are many lovely
beaches on the island, our favourites were Psilli Amos, Potos,
Alikes and Trypitti. We made our first visit to Paradise beach
but it wouldn't figure in our list of "must visit"
beaches when we return next year.
We hired 90cc scooters(brand new) from a
shop in Potos for a week and they were more than adequate
for my wife and I to ferry our 2 teenage daughters around
the island. Hire cost including insurance for the week was
70 euros each, unleaded fuel costs 80 cents(51 pence) per
litre !!.
There are good restuarants to eat at in Limenaria
and Potos.
In limenaria we could recommend Asterais
on the main promenade and Costas on the front by the harbour.
In Potos our favourites were "Zoom"(situated ion
the main road in the centre of the village) and "Taverna
Irene" located on the sea front next to the "Boomerang
Bar"
As previously stated we will all be returning
in June, 2005. We have been able to view apartments in Potos
which we will book ourselves together with flights to Kavala. The
overall saving compared to booking through a tour operator
is minimal(Its not the accommadation its the flights which
cost the real money when travelling independently) but at
least you know what you are getting and there are no hidden
costs.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday but would
suggest that limenaria is not the best place on the island
to stay unless you intend to use it as a base.
