Hello fellow Thassian fans

I would just like to mention Rachoni as it appears that not too many people visit this village and Skala Rachoni. The beaches are wonderful,it is a quiet location and just 10 mins to Limenas and Prinos either way. Louloudis apartments are an excellent place to stay and there is a fab beach/ cocktail bar across the road open until the early hours and they play some really good sounds including old favourites Tamala Mowtown. I also reccommend Vigli above Xrisi Ammoudia (golden beach to you punters). I think in all the years I lived in Thassos (all 20 of them)my favourite beaches are, Aliki,Nisteri,Likos,(in Rachoni)Tripiti,Kinira,Skala Maries, Marble beach which I think is more accessable these days and Nisteri at one time but things have changed there. Also other little coves , caves and rocks leading to the sea,that are off the beaten track, that only us locals know about.

My favourite villages are Potos,Sotiros,Rachoni,Potamia and the Vagis museum,Kalivia,Panagia,Ag Georgias,Kastro,Pefkari,Profitis Ilias.The South West side of the island is not as attractive due to the forest fires a few years ago which was a tragedy.Thassians are notoriously mean and bitter but there are exceptions, but as a holiday maker you are not affected. I think anyone expecting a kettle is out of order, when in Greece! I don't think I ever used a kettle in my twenty years there,can't say I had any problems with my old saucepan.If you go to Greece don't expect people to rush around,getting your order in for a meal is a long and protracted process and the bill even longer but that's the culture so you really have to be chilled and take it in your pace.

Thassos has been called many names such as Aitheria for it's clear sky,Aeria (wind)for it's cool summers,Chrysi because of the gold there and Hedonis from the Thracian Hedones.Cadmus went there in search of his sister Europa whom Zeus had abducted Thassos was taken from Cadmus's friend who went back there after a prophecy and ended up staying there.Today the story given by Herodotus, V1 46 is considered the most accurate

This is the first time I am unable to go to Thassos since 1978. Anyone passing Vigli, above golden beach give my regards to my friends Thanassis and Cath (who also run a very good hotel there with amazing views) and also Jill and Ilias from Limenas who run Zorba.
