Feedback message from Stuart and
Elaine, Huddersfield
10 July 2003
Have just returned yesterday from Thassos
where we have been staying at the Louloudis apartments at
Skala Rachoni for two weeks. As we had visited before but
never stayed there we knew how friendly the family George,
Sotiria and daughters Kaliopa and Thelmi were. A great time
was had by all. The hotel had a great atmosphere and by the
end of the holiday you cannot fail to make new friends. Our
address book has become fuller. The family organised two barbecues
over the fortnight with so much food to go round. 12.50 euros
was a snip for the amount we had. 20 guests attended and with
Sotiris's greek dancing with participation from guests it
was a great night and got people together. On the last night
the hotel organised games after everyone had eaten and many
made fools with egg & spoon race, the cucumber game and the
sack race not to mention the arm wrestling.
Although I have read good reports about other
hotels / apartments on this website I don't think any will
match the Louloudis for cleansiness of the rooms, good home
cooking and the caring manner in which the guests are treated.
The owners have this ability to get people involved and make
time not just for couples but people who also come on their
own. Many people we have met come back year after year some
have been seven or eight times and like us love the place.
As for the rest of Thassos we particularly enjoyed the beach
we found at Skala Marion which is round the other side of
the harbour along the one way system. The fact that it had
no taverna or even toilets did not put us off infact the sands
were lovely, a nice little bay and it appears that this is
where the locals go. When we arrived there was only 9 on the
beach and never more than 20 all day. This is a developing
area with a few hotels going up on the side. I'm sure in a
year or two a taverna will be on the beach but hopefully not
as this will spoil the beauty of the cove.
Visited Aliki following recommendation s
on the website to see how this compared with Skala Marion
but found this to be disappointing as the pebbles overtook
the beach and it was difficult to find some sand without breaking
your back. Also visited Glyfeneri a tranquil bay near the
Louloudis and another local one Pahis which is becoming very
popular. Visited Restuarants mentioned on the site including
Srytaki in Limenas and Zooom in Potos along with old favourites
such as Pigi's in Limenas and Krambousa in Skala Potamia.
Remezzos continues to be the best cafe in Limenas and try
the cafe up near the church in Panagia. None failed to disapoint.
Aquired a Citreon Saxo at a good rate with Auto car union
negotiated through the hotel. Role on next year when we return
to the Louloudis.
