| A 30 minute trip from Thassos Town over the
mountain comes first to Panagia with its view across the olive
groves which cover the sweep down, through the village of
Potamia to the bay and the small harbour at Skala Potamias.
The bay offers over two miles of beach walking from Skala
Potamia harbour at the southern end up to Golden Beach to
the north. |

There are plenty of bars and tavernas along
the beach front, open from from morning 'till late, whether
for a quiet drink whilst watching the world go by or for a
meal to remember.
Still more places to eat, drink and talk can be found no
more than ten or fifteen minutes stroll away from the sea.
You really need a car or a motor bike to reach some of the
quieter beaches on the Island, or to find some of the more
demanding walks in the mountains. Otherwise public transport
is generally quite adequate, and the bus into Thassos Town
can be an education! |
